Lastdate: For my conspiracy theorist friends that emailed, the hell he saw my post. Yeah bleeping right.
Update: I see Dirty Harry was similarly affronted by the list. And he even thought of some of the same examples as I did.
As a general policy I don't comment on internet lists. I especially don't comment on lists which are somehow ordered, as I think doing so in most cases is absurd. But this one just offended my sensibilities on a bunch of levels.
First of all, Al Capone? Really? He's barely in the movie. I'd make the argument for Frank Nitti instead. But the biggest problem I have with this list is how lazy it is. If you stretch Darth Vader to include Return of the Jedi, then the oldest movie on this list is The Shining from 1980. That's just unfathomable to me. What this says about the average age and/or level of sophistication of the internet voters for this survey is disturbing to say the least. Where's Robert Mitchum in Cape Fear? Hell, I'll take Robert Mitchum in Night of the Hunter. James Mason (Phillip Vandamm) in North by Northwest? And maybe the most rediculous omition of all, where's Henry Fonda in Once Upon a Time in the West? Forget old movies. Where's Arnold in Terminator? Gary Oldman in Leon or Dracula? Oh, never mind.
